School Outreach Programming
GTSF School-Based Outreach Programming
GTSF hosts large-scale, onsite shoe distribution events, which outfit 400 to 450 critical-needs children at a single school with new shoes and socks. We primarily partner with Title 1, Tier 1 schools with 90% to 100% of their student population on the free- and reduced-lunch program. We have approximately 25 set distribution dates available each September to May, with the goal of reaching 10,000 Southern Nevada children in need each school year. Our programming typically books at least six months in advance and schools are only eligible for services once every 13 months.
GTSF’s programming empowers children with the opportunity to select any pair of shoes of their choice from our large stock of traveling inventory. In January of 2010, GTSF launched its 48′ mobile shoe unit, which serves as the basis for the Goodie Two Shoes Foundation’s school-based outreach programming. This unit is a complete shoe-store-on-wheels and enables us to take our shoe distribution programming directly to children in need, at their school or referring organization.
Generous community monetary and volunteer support allows us to host two to three school-based shoe distribution events each month during the school year. We add additional shoe distribution events to our September to May school outreach programming whenever resources make it possible.
GTSF rarely accepts referrals from individuals, and instead works directly with social services agencies, school counselors, principals and the CCSD partnership office to identify large groups of children and/or schools, which would benefit most from our large-scale, scheduled distribution programming.
